Letter of Complaint to the Tacoma Police Dept.

There have been many occasions where I have witnessed police vehicles run a red light without their sirens or flashing lights on. I have watched as these vehicles ran red lights by driving quickly through the intersection then slowing down to normal speed once they've passed the light--an indicator, for me, that there was never a justifiable reason for their running of the red light. There have also been instances where the vehicle would turn on its sirens and flashing rights very briefly to run through the red light then immediately turn off both the sirens and flashing lights once it passed through the red light. In a few of these occasions, I was traveling on foot and couldn't catch the vehicle number of the police vehicle. Other times, I was driving, but was unable to follow the vehicle to get the vehicle number because that would require breaking the traffic law. My inability to produce these vehicle numbers is irrelevant however, for these acts of misconduct must be combatted institutionally. The grander problem at hand is the blatant disobedience of laws by police--laws which police are, by duty, to enforce--which must be seriously addressed so as to ensure citizens that their abidance to these laws is not arbitrary.
